French Digoin Sarreguemines Moroccan Bowl Farida Green

Details

This antique bowl was made in the 1920s and 30s for the Moroccan market. It was made by a famous French ceramics company, a fusion between two historic factories, Sarreguemines and Digoin. This company was known for its high-quality earthenware, majolica (fruits and animals) and tiles.
The Sarreguemines factory started in 1784, while a separate Digoin factory began in 1875. Production shifted to tiles before the company faced liquidation in 2007, but their pieces remain highly sought-after antiques, preserving their artistic heritage.
This bowl was displayed on a wall, probably in a Moroccan home, as it has a hole drilled in it to support a wire piece for hanging. It is marked Farida (its design) and Digoin Sarreguemines France on the bottom of the bowl.
Because it was used in homes and is 90 to 100 years old, it has blemishes. There are pitted areas on the back side and a few on the front as well as the drilled hole, a red mark and a gray mark in the center of the bowl. There are no chips, but the rim has tiny flea bites you can feel with your hand. It has a green design against a white background and measures 9” in diameter. See the photos for more details. It’s a true treasured French collectible and they are hard to find in the States.
