This is a large vintage TEPCO USA China ironstone pitcher with matching bowl. The TEPCO (Technical Porcelain and Chinaware Company) back-stamp is visible on the pitcher base and bowl base.
This pitcher is quite large measuring about 10.5” tall by 9.5” wide. It dates from the 1940s and 50s and is sometimes called “American ironstone”.
It is rare to find this pitcher with its matching base bowl. This bowl measures about 12” long by 9.25” wide by 2.25” tall. These are heavy, chunky ironstone treasures.
These pieces were designed for use in restaurants, diners and hotels due to their durability. They were also used in homes for washing hands and face. It was a functional, decorative piece, likely used for water service in dining settings or as a washbasin in bathrooms.
They are in very good condition with a nice glossy finish. The pitcher has some staining and crazing to the inside bottom and a couple of tiny chips along the underside base rim, as shown in photos.
What a treasured, collectible ironstone set. A great addition to someone’s ironstone or restaurant ware collection.
