This is an amazing handmade wooden cross with one side covered in more than 200 Milagros. The center of the cross features a Jesus Milagros and the arms each feature a sacred heart Milagros.
There are so many different Milagros that have been hand nailed to the front of this cross. Just to name a few, you’ll find arms, legs, children, heads, and hearts. Some of the animals include cows, rabbits, donkeys, horses, chickens, pigs and birds. I’ve tried to show as many as possible in the photos.
This cross is large measuring approximately 16” wide by 25” tall by 6” deep.
It is old and has been used. It has a piece of wood broken off of the back side of the bottom base but it still stands well and even. It also has tiny white overspray from a paint sprayer. The wood appears to be salvaged and it is layered as you can see on the sides. It also has a very light blue wash from its previous color, but most has faded away leaving a soft washed tint in some areas. It’s also heavy, weighing over 5lbs and 11oz.
I have never seen a cross this large that is completely covered in old Milagros on its front. Milagros is translated “miracles” and they were used in prayer for friends and family. This cross is covered with all the beloved treasures that the owner would have been praying for. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind treasure.
