Details
This beauty is a Mason’s English ironstone pitcher featuring the brown Watteau transferware pattern. It displays a classic pastoral landscape scene with a seated figure, trees and architectural elements.
It has a distinctive multi-sided faceted body, a scalloped rim and a curved handle.
It was made in England and has its maker’s mark on the base.
It’s in very good condition with no chips. It has character crazing from age. This pitcher measures approximately 6.5” from outside handle to spout and is 5.5” tall.
Mason’s introduced their Watteau pattern around 1890, but due to its success, the company continued to make this pattern through the mid-20th century.
Because the maker’s mark includes only the word “England”, it indicates that this pitcher was made between 1891 and 1920. “Made in England” was added to the mark after 1920 and any pieces without the “England” were made before 1891.
This is a beautiful collectible pitcher and is over 100 years old.
