Details

This is an authentic silver-plated metal serving tray made by Homan Manufacturing Company between 1904 and the 1920s. It has a maker’s mark on the base and is marked “Special Metal” which was a proprietary base alloy formulation used by Homan specifically for their hand-hammered silver-plated lines.
This company was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1847 and remained in business until 1941.
This serving tray was probably used to serve rolls and bread at the dinner table. It measures about 12.75” long by 6” wide. Given its 100 years old, it has tarnish and scratches from usage and the aging process.
It has a beautifully engraved cartouche in the center with floral or scroll accents along the rim and border. It has a hand-hammered texture and additional etching on each end and on the handles.
It’s a beautiful tray that has survived over 100 years and will make a nice addition to someone’s home decor.
