Details
This is a vintage solid cast brass INRI wall crucifix featuring a radiant sunburst backing the corpus, an INRI banner at the top, and open-work diamond-shaped cutouts at the end of the cross arms.
Right below the INRI banner is a detailed five-petal flower motif. In Catholic iconography this is often a rose or passion flower which traditionally symbolizes the Passion of the Christ, divine love and the tree of life breaking into bloom.
Flaring outward beneath the body of Christ is a radiant sunburst backdrop symbolizing divine light, holiness and glory.
The darkening and oxidation tucked into the grooves of the sunburst and other details match what you expect to see from real brass that has naturally aged for several decades.
This piece was more than likely made in Italy. It measures about 7.5”W x 10.5”H in size.
It’s a beautiful brass religious collectible from the 1970s or 80s and a perfect addition to any collection.
