Oh how I love flow blue and this ironstone platter is a hard one to let go! This beautiful deep cobalt blue, flow blue platter was made by Wheeling Pottery from Wheeling, West Virginia between 1887 and 1910. It’s part of their “La Belle China” line.
It is an authentic antique glazed earthenware/ironstone piece featuring a deep blue cobalt border with embossed swirl trim.
It is in nice condition and has no chips. Its edge is beautifully scalloped and it has character crazing and staining from age, which testifies to how old this little platter truly is. The front of the platter has an oval white center which is a sharp contrast to the cobalt blue trim. Keep in mind that the white center is stained and so it is no longer a pure white color. And it also has blue spots from the blue bleeding during the firing process.
This is a small serving platter and measures about 10.5”W x 7.5”D x .75”H.
It has a backstamp on its base and lots of staining on its base.
It’s an absolutely gorgeous piece of flow blue ironstone and will be a nice addition to someone’s collection.
