This is a vintage hand-stitched sampler. Specifically, it’s a traditional child’s sewing or schoolgirl exercise sampler used to practice alphabets, numbers and basic embroidery stitches.
It features a traditional verse reading, “ here a figure, there a letter, one done bad, some done better” and is signed and dated as, “Sarah Rebecca 1888”.
This dark wood framed piece measures about 7”x6” and has a saw tooth hanger on the back.
The linen cloth has some yellowing and staining as shown in the photos.
It’s a sweet piece of vintage folk art and a nice piece of wall decor for a farmhouse or primitive decor.
